Women for Healthy Rural Living (WHRL) has awarded Lexie Kearns the 2024 Elaine Hill Memorial Nursing Scholarship. As this year’s Elaine Hill scholar, Lexie will receive $2500 annually for four years. A recent graduate of Sumner High School, Lexie will attend Husson University in the fall.
While at Sumner, she was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She was a silver medalist at the Maine State 2023 SkillsUSA Championship and a gold medalist at the 2024 SkillsUSA Championship for the health occupations professional portfolio.” She received the Health Occupations Top Performer award for the 2022-2023 CNA program.
Lexie has gained valuable experience working as a Personal Support Specialist/CNA in a local assisted living facility. She also participated in elementary school health screenings. She volunteered for multiple years with the Jobs for Maine Graduates Giving Tree program and Hancock County Technical Center’s Community Clean Up. Lexie has volunteered at area Red Cross blood drives as well.
This scholarship was established by Women for Healthy Rural Living in 2009 to honor the legacy of beloved nurse Elaine Hill, who served at the Milbridge Medical Center with dedication and compassion for over 30 years. Since then, WHRL has raised over $75,000 to support local nursing students.
