MILBRIDGE, ME– SUMMIT FOR A CAUSE: KATAHDIN. Local nonprofit Women for Healthy Rural Living (WHRL) is hosting an innovative fundraiser, a guided hike up Katahdin. The all-women hike will take place the weekend of August 2-4, 2024. Each participant raises $1500 as part of a peer-to-peer fundraiser.

Katahdin is Maine’s highest mountain, with an elevation of 5,269’. Hazel Stark, co-founder of Maine Outdoor School, L3C, a Registered Maine Guide and Wilderness First Responder, will lead the group to and from the summit. This is an opportunity to hike Katahdin within a supportive community of women. It’s a way to connect with nature and one another while working to achieve a goal that offers a deep sense of accomplishment.

Funds will support WHRL’s Incredible Edible Milbridge, a series of free vegetable gardens and education initiatives addressing food security and nutrition. Registration opens runs through March 15th. Only ten participants will be accepted. To learn more, visit
