SUMMARY:Health and Cancer Screenings for Women: An informational program to empower decision-making (Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:Note: This program is remote on Zoom \nOpen to anyone 18 and up for whom the word woman is a meaningful identity or lived experience. \nJoin Nurse Practitioner Mary Seterdahl for an informational session covering current guidelines for cervical\, breast\, colon\, and lung cancer screenings\, as well as bone density scans. \nIt can be overwhelming to consider all the different screenings and tests our medical provider recommends at our annual well visit or that we hear about in the media. This informational session will cover the current guidelines for cervical\, breast\, colon\, and lung cancer screenings\, as well as bone density scans. What do they tell us and not tell us? How are they done? At what age should I have a particular screening? What happens next if I have a positive result? Information is empowering\, and the goal of this presentation is to provide accurate\, up-to-date\, clear information. There will be plenty of time at the end of each segment to answer participants’ questions. \n \n \n \n \n \n Facilitator Bio: Mary Seterdahl\, FNP-C is a Nurse Practitioner in Western Massachusetts specializing in Primary Care and Family Practice. As an RN\, she worked in Cardiac Telemetry\, Medical Surgical\, and College Health. As a Nurse Practitioner\, she works at a Family Practice in Greenfield\, MA and at Smith College\, an all-women’s college. Working with individuals throughout their life span and focusing on preventative health\, Mary finds helping patients navigate decisions about health and cancer screenings highly rewarding and potentially life-saving. When not working\, Mary enjoys practicing yoga\, cooking\, reading\, and spending time with her family and her dogs. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Health and Cancer Screenings for Women\n \n PhoneThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Health and Cancer Screenings for Women6 seats available.\n \n \n Price:\n \n \n \n Waitlist(Required)\n \n I wish to be signed up for the Waitlist\n Your InformationName(Required)Space is limited - register ONLY one person at a time. \n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Mailing Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Is there anything else we should know? SUMMARY:Spring Chickens with International Flavors with Ora Aselton
DESCRIPTION:It’s March\, and spring is upon us! Maybe… just maybe… your hardy greens and perennial herbs are stirring\, thinking about poking up their brave heads. To encourage their arrival and to honor the change of seasons\, Ora Aselton is going to dive into the many ways a humble spring chicken can be transformed into a multitude of dishes and salads that play well with early lettuces\, cabbage\, and savory herbs. In the process\, we’ll be visiting some culinary flavors from California\, France\, Asia\, and India. It’s going to be a fun trip! \nWhile we’re at it\, we’ll examine the budget… As food prices continue to rise\, making the most of your leftovers makes more sense than ever. We’ll break down the cost of that spring chicken\, which generously feeds you for a week. \nRecipes will be included\, plus ideas for other delicious chicken makeovers. \nRegistration opens February 1st.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n 2026 March Harvest Table - Spring Chicken\n \n X/TwitterThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Spring ChickenThis session is full. SUMMARY:Lessons in Chemistry
DESCRIPTION:Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie GarmusLeader: Pat OlsenWednesdays\, 6-7:30 – (3/11\, 3/18\, 3/25)Tuesdays\, 3:00-4:30 – (3/10\, 3/17\, 3/24) \nChemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact\, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans\, the lonely\, brilliant\, Nobel–prize–nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.  \nBut like science\, life is unpredictable. Which is why a few years later Elizabeth Zott finds herself not only a single mother\, but the reluctant star of America’s most beloved cooking show Supper at Six. Elizabeth’s unusual approach to cooking (“combine one tablespoon acetic acid with a pinch of sodium chloride”) proves revolutionary. But as her following grows\, not everyone is happy. Because as it turns out\, Elizabeth Zott isn’t just teaching women to cook. She’s daring them to change the status quo.   \nLaugh-out-loud funny\, shrewdly observant\, and studded with a dazzling cast of supporting characters\, Lessons in Chemistry is as original and vibrant as its protagonist. \nRegistration opens February 1st. \n \n \n \n \n \n Book Groups are open to anyone age 18 or older for whom "woman" is a meaningful identifier or lived experience. \nOur book discussion group meets for three sessions. SUMMARY:Mending Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Have you always wanted to learn how to mend your clothes? Do you have a pile of clothes you love that need a little TLC before you can wear them again? Are you a seasoned mender looking to meet and connect with others? There is a place for you at WHRL’s Mending Cafe! Share your favorite technique for putting a patch on your jeans\, sewing on a button\, darning your knitwear\, and more! Some repairs may benefit from the use of a sewing machine; we will always have at least one available. \nWe welcome all skill levels to this program. Although this will not be a class\, there will be menders who can help you brainstorm ideas for your repairs. We will have some tools and materials available\, but we recommend bringing your favorite sewing notions from home. We will have plenty of fabric scraps\, embroidery floss\, yarn\, and iron for pressing. We will also have some of our favorite books on mending techniques available for in-class use and inspiration! \nPlease note that this program will take place monthly on the second Tuesday of each month on a drop-in basis.

Her family has been in the community since her grandparents’ generation\, and Michele has been coming to Washington County every year for all of her life. \nMichele studied economics at Princeton University and now works for Ernst & Young in their financial services organization. She believes financial education should be accessible\, non-judgmental\, and grounded in the realities of people’s lives\, especially in rural and seasonal economies like Downeast Maine. SUMMARY:Life in the Field vs Forest
DESCRIPTION:What life exists in the field vs. the forest\, especially in early spring? These two ecosystems provide different things to the variety of birds\, mammals\, insects\, and plants in the area\, especially as the days get longer and warmer. We’ll compare and contrast the benefits of each ecosystem this time of year and try to figure out whether there’s more biodiversity in the field or the forest. In OWL outings\, frequent stops are built into the program to discuss elements of the natural world that we learn about on the way. The pace is always determined by the needs and desires of the group\, with a primary goal of going slow to enhance our connection with nature and each other. This is an easy\, slow walk* with no elevation change over mostly flat terrain with some raised tree roots and bog bridging that can be slippery depending on conditions. More information about the trail can be found here: https://crabtreenecklandtrust.org/visit-preserves/ball-field-sam-ball-woods/. Snowshoes are available by request and as needed. Bring warm winter layers\, including waterproof\, insulated boots. As a base layer\, long johns (wool or synthetic) are recommended under bulky\, warm mid-layers and water- and windproof outer layers\, including mittens/gloves and a hat. Bring a comfortable backpack to carry extra layers and water in. Questions about how to prepare? Just ask! We have extra gear to share. \nOWL Outings are led by Registered Maine Guides at Maine Outdoor School who all hold a minimum of a Wilderness First Aid certification. To learn more about MOS’s guides\, visit https://www.maineoutdoorschool.org/staff. \n*To determine the difficulty level of outings\, we use Maine TrailFinder’s difficulty rating system. For more detailed information about these difficulty levels\, including visual examples\, explore the rating system here. \nGear LibraryWHRL and MOS have a gear collection for OWL outings. Please reach out directly to Lizzie at 413-717-7827 or by email at lizzie@whrl.org if you are interested in using any of the items below. Use is first-come\, first-served. Need something that you don’t see on the list below? Reach out! \nAvailable Gear \n\nTrekking poles (6 sets)\nMicrospikes (4 sets\, two small\, two medium)\nSnow Shoes\nWarm layers: hats\, mittens\, jackets\, snowpants\, a few pairs of snow boots\,\nrain ponchos\, scarves\, warm socks\n\nSpace is limited\, and registration is required. SUMMARY:Exploring Wellness through Mindfulness with Britta Sunde
DESCRIPTION:This program is open to all. \nJoin Britta Sunde for a wellness course that explores the importance of mindfulness and its crucial role in our physical and mental health. Within all of us lies the wisdom to heal and to be well. Oftentimes\, the reason that we don’t heal or feel our best is that we don’t know how to get out of our own way. Unhealthy habits\, negative thought patterns\, or simply being unaware can all be hindrances that we create for ourselves! \nBritta will lead a discussion of mindful eating\, nutrition\, self-care practices\, stress management techniques\, and more. You can expect to come away with concrete ideas for taking better care of yourself and integrating mindfulness into your daily life. You will learn practical tools to improve and protect your health\, and you will explore how to listen and respect the subtle signals our bodies and minds are so often sending us – signs that something is out of balance and needs attention\, asking us to make changes such as slowing down and making time to take better care of ourselves – BEFORE we become ill. \nThis class is designed for anyone who would like to improve their overall well-being or explore personal growth through self-awareness practices. Britta will incorporate gentle stretching into this program\, so come prepared for some light movement. This is a welcoming and judgment-free zone. \nPlease plan to bring the following with you to class: \n\nBlanket\nComfortable clothes\nYoga mat\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Britta Sunde is dedicated to improving her patients’ wellness journeys in Downeast Maine. This program is offered as a way to share tools that can help people feel more confident and supported when it comes to money. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n Everyday Money Skills\n \n NameThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Select the Everyday Money Skills sessions you would like to attend:\n \n March 16: Foundations – Money Mindset & Confidence\n \n \n March 30: Budgeting & Emergency Planning for Real Life\n \n \n April 20: Debt – Avoiding Traps & Making a Plan\n \n \n April 27: Credit & Savings – Making Money Work for You\n \n \n May 4: Local\, State & Federal Financial Resources\n \n \n May 11: Taxes\, Retirement & Investing – The Basics\n Your InformationName(Required)Space is limited - register ONLY one person at a time. \n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Mailing Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Is there anything else we should know? SUMMARY:Menopause Support Group
DESCRIPTION:You are not alone! If you are feeling frustrated or uncertain about the changes your body is undergoing\, join the circle to feel supported and understood. Facilitated by Nicole French\, a Registered Nurse and Menopause Coaching Specialist\, this group gathers monthly to share in the experience of menopause. Join this Menoposse to hear from others\, share your own story (optional)\, learn techniques for self-management\, gather resources to become your own best advocate in navigating healthcare\, and connect with others to build your support system outside the group. Open to all community members who will experience menopause at some point in their lives; we welcome folks from their 20s and up. Whether you want to listen\, speak\, or simply connect\, you are welcome to the circle.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n Menopause Support Group\n Only first-time attendees need register! \n \n Menopause Support Group\n \n \n Price:\n \n \n \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Mailing Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Would you like to join WHRL's email list?We publish a monthly e-newsletter so you can receive updates regarding our programming\, events\, and more.\n \n \n Absolutely\, sign me up!\n \n \n \n I'm already on the list!\n \n \n \n No thanks.\n How did you hear about this event?\n \n \n Email\n \n \n \n Word of mouth\n \n \n \n Newspaper\n \n \n \n Facebook\n \n \n \n Instagram\n \n \n \n Poster\n \n \n \n Other\n Is there anything else we should know?
