SUMMARY:2nd Annual Bloom for Butterflies Milkweed Sale
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce our 2nd Annual Bloom for Butterflies Milkweed Plant Fundraiser Sale. This initiative aims to promote the planting of milkweed\, a vital host plant for monarch butterflies\, and to raise funds to support the maintenance of the Ed Flanagan Pollinator Garden at Milbridge Commons Wellness Park. \nMilkweed is essential to monarch survival\, whose populations have declined dramatically in recent years. By planting milkweed\, we not only provide a safe habitat for these beautiful butterflies but also support the overall health of our local ecosystems. \nThe Bloom for Butterflies Milkweed Plant Fundraiser Sale features swamp milkweed\, a plant that forms 3-5 foot tall clumps\, and doesn’t spread aggressively like other milkweed species. It’s a perennial that thrives in wet environments but can also grow in regular gardens. \nOur 3-quart pots will contain two Milkweed seedlings ready for planting.  \nSupplies are limited (and we sold out last year)! Order now for pickup in late June. Plants are a $12 donation. \nJoin us in making a difference for our environment! Together\, we can create a brighter future for monarch butterflies and our local ecosystems.  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n \n \n Bloom for Butterflies: Milkweed Plant Fundraiser\n \n Swamp Milkweed Plant Quantity\n \n \n Price:\n $12.00\n \n \n Quantity \n Name(Required)\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Phone Number(Required)Email(Required)\n \n Mailing Address \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Total\n \n How do you plan to pay?(Required)Please note that Venmo is not yet available on Apple devices. \n \n \n Credit Card\n \n \n \n PayPal or Venmo\n \n \n \n Send a Check\n Paypal CheckoutPayPal Checkout\n MasterCardVisaSupported Credit Cards: MasterCard\, Visa\n \n Card Number\n \n \n \n Expiration Date\n \n \n                                                 \n Security Code\n \n \n \n Cardholder Name\n Credit Card\n \n Cardholder Name\n \n \n Card Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Δ

SUMMARY:Planning an Insectary Garden
DESCRIPTION:Create a garden full of beauty and life that fosters health\, connection\, and supports a flourishing landscape and diverse natural communities. Planting an insectary garden helps us to balance our domesticated gardens with the wild spaces that surround them\, working with\, rather than against nature. By attracting and welcoming a variety of insects and other creatures (such as hummingbirds\, butterflies\, and amphibians) to the garden we can provide natural pest control\, boost pollination for better yields\, improve soil health\, and reduce our reliance on harmful chemical pesticides. In this workshop you will learn how to make your garden a welcoming habitat by providing nesting sites\, shelter and security\, host plants for eggs and larvae\, nectar plants\, and water. \nThis program is free; space is limited and registration is required. \nRegistration opens February 1st. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mark Grant is Incredible Edible Milbridge Coordinator at WHRL and he gardens at Milbridge Commons Wellness Park and Red Barn Motel. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n Planning an Insectary Garden\n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Planning an Insectary GardenThis session is full. SUMMARY:Birding 101
DESCRIPTION:April is the perfect month to learn a new bird by song or sight because they seem to show up one by one this time of year\, giving us a chance to really notice individuals. This mellow outing will provide optional sitting or standing activities to help you notice details about birds\, to help you build some birding superpowers you can use anywhere. This program is low-movement\, and you can enjoy it seated or standing. Wheelchairs welcome! For this outing\, you will need to move from your car in the parking lot to the grassy park area of the Milbridge Commons Wellness Park. The park is ringed by a 6′-wide trail with a deep gravel base topped with stone dust\, which makes it easier on the joints than pavement. For people who use wheelchairs\, Maine Trail Finder’s Accessibility Ambassador\, Enock Glidden\, has created a rating system in Wheelies. This outing qualifies as “Wheelie Easy.” See here for more information. For those who would like to move around more\, you will also have the opportunity to do so. Wear clothing and footwear to keep you warm and dry during this slower-paced program\, and a lawn chair if you’d prefer not to sit on a stone bench or the ground. Please reach out to Lizzie at 413-717-7827 with any further questions. \nOWL Outings are led by Registered Maine Guides at Maine Outdoor School who all hold a minimum of a Wilderness First Aid certification. To learn more about MOS’s guides\, visit https://www.maineoutdoorschool.org/staff. \nGear Library \nWHRL and MOS have a gear collection for OWL outings. Please reach out directly to Lizzie at 413-717-7827 or by email at lizzie@whrl.org if you are interested in using any of the items below. Use is first-come\, first-served. Need something that you don’t see on the list below? Reach out! \nAvailable Gear \n\nTrekking poles (6 sets)\nLayers: rain ponchos\n\nSpace is limited\, and registration is required. SUMMARY:Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
DESCRIPTION:Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail HoneymanLeader: Lizzie CunninghamEvenings: Wednesdays\, 6-7:30 – (4/15\, 4/22\, 4/29)Afternoons: Thursdays\, 3:00-4:30 – (4/16\, 4/23\, 4/30) \nMeet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions\, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza\, vodka\, and phone chats with Mummy. \nBut everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond\, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy\, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk\, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one. \nSoon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon\, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart\, warm\, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes the only way to survive is to open your heart. \n \n \n \n \n \n Book Groups are open to anyone age 18 or older for whom "woman" is a meaningful identifier or lived experience. \nOur book discussion group meets for three sessions. SUMMARY:Presence and Awareness: A Meditation Series
DESCRIPTION:“I’ve experienced a great deal of pain and suffering in my life …… most of which has never happened.” -Mark Twain \nMeditation is a mind and body practice that has a long history of use for increasing calmness and physical relaxation\, improving psychological balance\, coping with illness\, and enhancing overall health and wellbeing. \nVipassana\, meaning “clear-seeing” or “in-sight\,” is a meditation technique that develops awareness of the present moment. This three-session introduction to Vipassana practice offers beginners a foundational understanding of mindfulness meditation\, focusing on cultivating awareness of breath and bodily sensations. Through guided instructions and simple techniques\, participants will learn how to develop greater concentration and insight\, paving the way for deeper self-awareness and emotional balance. \nWhy Meditate? \n\nIt can help those who feel jerked around by their emotions\, whose repetitive daily thoughts aren’t serving them\, and who tend to react rather than respond.\nIt may help you experience life with less reactivity\, greater emotional regulation\, and deeper understanding and control of your thinking and behavior.\nIt can help with feelings of overwhelm\, defeat\, and inner conflict.\nIt offers a sense of calm\, acceptance\, and concentration.\n\nWho Is This Series For? \n\nAnyone new to meditation\nLongtime students looking for a refresher\nAnyone who thinks they can’t meditate\nAnyone suspicious that meditation is too woo-woo\nAnyone who feels they don’t have time to meditate\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This series will be led by Meaghan Lamothe\, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner\, caring for patients across the lifespan\, from pediatrics through geriatrics. She began practicing in Maine and now works in Southeast Alaska\, predominantly with the Alaska Native population.  She is passionate about getting to know her patients to help them achieve health and wellness. Meaghan has been practicing Vipassana meditation for 15 years. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n Presence and Awareness - April\n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Presence and Awareness: A Introduction to Vipassana Meditation7 seats available.\n \n \n Price:\n \n \n \n Waitlist(Required)\n \n I wish to be signed up for the Waitlist\n Your InformationName(Required)Space is limited - register ONLY one person at a time. \n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Mailing Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Is there anything else we should know? Her initial fiber interests were sewing and quilting. Janet was introduced to rug hooking in 2016 after glimpsing the most beautiful carpet bag she had ever seen. She chased down the owner and learned that it had been hand-made. She has been hooked ever since! She is now a regular attendee of classes\,” hook-ins”\, and community gatherings. Janet enjoys acquiring new techniques\, but is consistently drawn to pictorials. She and her husband recently moved from Vermont to Freeport\, Maine\, as they had run out of floor and wall space for her creations. This accomplished and talented fiber artist is excited to share her passion for rug hooking with the WHRL community. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This event is full. \nEmail Susan at susan@whrl.org to be added to the waitlist.

SUMMARY:Creating a Living Shoreline at Milbridge Commons Wellness Park
DESCRIPTION:Do you have an eroding shoreline? Are you interested in learning how live stakes can help stabilize and restore your shoreline? Live stakes are cuttings from native shrubs or trees\, such as willow or elderberry\, that are planted directly into the soil along streambanks or shorelines. As they grow\, their roots hold soil in place\, reduce erosion\, and provide important habitat for wildlife. \nJoin us with Maine Coast Heritage Trust at Milbridge Commons Wellness Park for a demonstration session on April 25th\, 2026\, from 1–3 pm\, where you can see live staking in action and ask questions about the best species and planting techniques for your property. Questions? Contact David Holmberg at dholmberg@mcht.org or 513-292-3549. \nThis program is free\, but registration is required! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n \n Creating a Living Shoreline at Milbridge Commons\n \n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Creating a Living Shoreline\n \n \n Price:\n \n \n \n Your InformationName(Required)Space is limited - register ONLY one person at a time. \n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email(Required)\n \n Phone(Required)Mailing Address(Required) \n \n \n \n Street Address\n \n \n City\n \n AlabamaAlaskaAmerican SamoaArizonaArkansasCaliforniaColoradoConnecticutDelawareDistrict of ColumbiaFloridaGeorgiaGuamHawaiiIdahoIllinoisIndianaIowaKansasKentuckyLouisianaMaineMarylandMassachusettsMichiganMinnesotaMississippiMissouriMontanaNebraskaNevadaNew HampshireNew JerseyNew MexicoNew YorkNorth CarolinaNorth DakotaNorthern Mariana IslandsOhioOklahomaOregonPennsylvaniaPuerto RicoRhode IslandSouth CarolinaSouth DakotaTennesseeTexasUtahU.S. Virgin IslandsVermontVirginiaWashingtonWest VirginiaWisconsinWyomingArmed Forces AmericasArmed Forces EuropeArmed Forces Pacific\n State\n \n \n ZIP Code\n \n \n Is there anything else we should know? SUMMARY:Chair Yoga - Spring Session I - Evenings
DESCRIPTION:When: Wednesdays\, beginning May 6 (5 sessions)Time: 4:00-5:00 pmCost: $10 per session ($50 paid in advance) \nChair yoga allows us to enjoy the benefits of yoga while sitting securely in a firm chair.  We still have to do the work\, but we are seated in a chair or standing next to it\, using our hand for support.  This makes the practice available to those of us who can’t easily get up and down from the floor\,  have had knee or hip replacements\,  suffer from dizziness\, and struggle with balance — lots of us! \nWith practice\, our bodies become stronger and more flexible. Our breathing slows and deepens\, our postural alignment improves\, and we begin to cultivate an inner field of quiet and self-compassion. These benefits bring vitality to our systems and a feeling of being at home in our bodies. \nChairs are provided. Please wear comfortable\, layered clothing for both warm and cool conditions. Elastic waistbands are essential to prevent breath obstruction. Sneakers are good\, and shoes may stay on during practice. SUMMARY:Chair Yoga - Spring Session II - Mornings
DESCRIPTION:When: Fridays\, beginning May 8 (5 sessions)Time: 9:00-10:00 amCost: $10 per session ($50 paid in advance) \nChair yoga allows us to enjoy yoga benefits while sitting securely in a firm chair. Please wear comfortable clothing\, in layers\, for warm and cool conditions. Elastic waistbands are essential to prevent breath obstruction. Sneakers are good\, and shoes may stay on during practice. If you have yoga blocks\, please bring them.  No mat is needed. \nGeri Valentine is the instructor for this series. She is certified in both Yin and Kripalu Yoga\, forms of Hatha Yoga. SUMMARY:Mending Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Have you always wanted to learn how to mend your clothes? Do you have a pile of clothes you love that need a little TLC before you can wear them again? Are you a seasoned mender looking to meet and connect with others? There is a place for you at WHRL’s Mending Cafe! Share your favorite technique for putting a patch on your jeans\, sewing on a button\, darning your knitwear\, and more! Some repairs may benefit from the use of a sewing machine; we will always have at least one available. \nWe welcome all skill levels to this program. Although this will not be a class\, there will be menders who can help you brainstorm ideas for your repairs. We will have some tools and materials available\, but we recommend bringing your favorite sewing notions from home. We will have plenty of fabric scraps\, embroidery floss\, yarn\, and iron for pressing. We will also have some of our favorite books on mending techniques available for in-class use and inspiration! \nPlease note that this program will take place monthly on the second Tuesday of each month on a drop-in basis.

SUMMARY:Crepuscular Crawl
DESCRIPTION:“Crepuscular” is the word for animals that are most active during dawn and dusk. This mellow hike will focus on observing the signs of wildlife that love this cooler time of day during summer. In OWL outings\, frequent stops are built into the program to discuss elements of the natural world that we learn about on the way. The pace is always determined by the needs and desires of the group with a primary goal of going slow to enhance our connection with nature and each other. Bring comfortable close-toed shoes for walking in\, like sneakers or hiking boots\, and a backpack for extra layers\, water\, and snacks. This will be a moderate*\, short hike with minimal elevation change over mostly flat terrain. More information about the trail here (we don’t do the full 1.5-mile lollipop trail). \nOWL Outings are led by Registered Maine Guides at Maine Outdoor School who all hold a minimum of a Wilderness First Aid certification. To learn more about MOS’s guides\, visit https://www.maineoutdoorschool.org/staff. \n*To determine the difficulty level of outings\, we use Maine TrailFinder’s difficulty rating system. For more detailed information about these difficulty levels\, including visual examples\, explore the rating system here. Registration opens April 13.
