In 2009, Elaine Hill lost her battle with breast cancer. For more than 30 years, Elaine was the face of compassion at the Milbridge Medical Center, caring for everyone from newborns to seniors. She loved being a nurse. Elaine was one of those rare, truly good people, you may only meet once in a lifetime. Her only motivation was to help people.
An outpouring of love after her death prompted WHRL to establish a nursing scholarship in her name. Her legacy of compassion continues with the recipients of her scholarship as they carry on her mission.

The Scholarship
Sponsored by Women for Healthy Rural Living, the Elaine Hill Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to residents of Washington and Hancock County who are pursuing a post-secondary nursing education (either an associate degree or BS).
EHMN scholarships are up to $2,500 for one year only and are non-renewable. Applicants may be high school seniors or any person pursuing an undergraduate nursing degree.
Entering college students will receive the award upon proof of successful completion of the first semester of college with a C+ average or better. Currently enrolled college students with a strong record will receive the award before the start of the next semester.
Recipients will have demonstrated those qualities of character, caring, and compassion, as well as academic excellence.

Applications must be postmarked by May 15, 2023.
