The Elaine Hill Love a Nurse 5K in honor of Elaine Hill presents organizations with a unique sponsorship opportunity.

Elaine was a 30 year veteran nurse who loved her job and who was greatly loved and admired in return. Her gentle smile, wry sense of humor, and unfailing compassion endeared her to all. Both her patients and the greater Milbridge community considered her the “heart” of the Milbridge Medical Center.

Sadly, after caring for others for so many years, Elaine lost her own courageous fight against breast cancer in February, 2009 at age 70.

The Women’s Health Resource Library, in collaboration with Hill family members, established the Elaine Hill Scholarship in 2009 to continue Elaine’s legacy through support of students who choose a nursing profession. Annually, proceeds benefit a Washington or Hancock County high school senior and a non-traditional student returning to school to pursue a nursing education. This year marks our 8th annual event to fund this effort.

Over time, the original Elaine Hill Walk has grown to include a 5K Run and Children’s Fun Run. In additional tribute, the date has been moved to May to coincide with National Nurses Week.

The Elaine Hill Love a Nurse 5K will be held on May 14, 2016. Walkers and runners will register at the Milbridge town marina and then proceed along Fickett’s Point Road to Elaine Hill’s former home and return. There will be a water station at the turn-around. This 5K race/walk is on a level tarred surface, comfortable for all ages and accessible for strollers.

Download the sponsorship form for the Elaine Hill Love a Nurse 5K. Every dollar will be awarded to deserving nursing students. We plan to increase our total this year and are counting on your support in this endeavor. The nursing profession needs as many dedicated professionals as possible; and the Elaine Hill Scholarship, in combination with the Love a Nurse 5K, allows us to contribute to this noble field. We would be most grateful for your support as a sponsor.

Most importantly, please plan on participating on May 14 and becoming a member of the Elaine Hill Love a Nurse 5K family. By spreading the word, you can make a difference. With your help, we can make this a memorable event for participants, honor a remarkable woman, and benefit worthy nursing students for years to come.

Thank you for your consideration. Your response by April 15 will enable us to include your name and logo on t-shirts and in promotional materials. See you at the finish line!
