Cherryfield Arts Initiative
A grass-roots program offering free access to the arts for children and adults of Cherryfield and the surrounding community of Downeast MaineCAI believes a creative community is a healthy community. Making and viewing art improves mood, encourages a creative mindset, and strengthens connections with others. Art also helps process emotion, engage in problem-solving and critical thinking, and increase confidence and self-esteem.
CAI knows that increased access to art leads to healthier, happier lives and is committed to offering quality art experiences to the community–free of charge.
Women for Healthy Rural Living is the fiscal sponsor for Cherryfield Arts Initiative.
Imagine the community you want.
Together, we can create it.

In the works for 2025
Dates are all to be determined!
2-Day Art-Making Workshop (ages 6-12) Day One has participants exploring Fluid Art, creating Picasso Masks, and erecting 3D paper sculptures. On Day Two, participants will shape and decorate tiny paper airplanes, and sculpt tissue paper flowers and mushrooms. Participants will add their own design to CAI’s Make More Art Community Mural and will be able to take their Day One Fluid Artwork home.
Butterfly Wing Art (ages 6-10) In anticipation of the Upcoming Butterfly Festival, participants will try out the inkblot technique on paper to create the symmetrical wing patterns of butterflies.
Create at the Commons (ages 11-14) After a short exploration of the Milbridge Commons, attendees will be invited to choose their inspiration, whether it’s a single-flower still-life, a landscape painting, or a creation of their own imagination. Participants will create with watercolors, markers, colored pencils, or nupastels–or mix your media and combine them all!
Life Drawing at the Schooner (18+) Models strike various poses as participants use pencils, paints, pastels, charcoals, and other media to practice gestural drawing. Will be held upstairs at the Schooner Gallery in Milbridge. Six sessions.
