Family Gardening Workshop – Create Your Own Container Garden with Juana Rodriguez-Vazquez & Pam Dyer Stewart
Saturday, May 19 from 9 – 11am at WHRL
Bring the whole family or come by yourself. We will plant a container garden for you to take home and we’ll talk about healthy soil, seeds and seedlings, and how to care for them all summer. You will have fresh organic vegetables to eat out of your own mini-garden. A great family project! If we have time, we may tour the Incredible Edible Pick-Your-Own Garden at the Red Barn.
Garden Tour and Soil Fertility with Curtis LaFollette in Cherryfield

The single most important ingredient to a successful and bountiful garden is fertile soil. Without it, all your hard work will never pay off. Curtis and Marion LaFolette have been gardening in the same spot since 1972, though the size and fertility of their garden has grown. Curtis will share his secret for building the rich soil that supports his lush and bountiful vegetable beds. Come learn from this seasoned gardener and be inspired by his magnificent garden.
Canning: The Art of Putting Food by with Sheila Chretien from Redbird Farm
Saturday, August 11 from 9am to Noon at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cherryfield
Learn how to get started, how to choose foods to can, the various methods of canning, and helpful tools of the trade. Bring a couple one-pint canning jars and a towel and/or tote to carry away your preserved food. If you have zucchini or green beans from your own garden, bring them along. If not, we’ll provide them. Sheila will provide hands-on instruction and demonstrate how to safely preserve the flavors of summer. Sheila is the mother of 4, grandmother of 19, has been farming since 1986 and has been canning since 1970.

Back by popular demand! This workshop is about an easy and fun way to preserve fresh vegetables, and create a tasty new food that is really good for you. It’s all about slicing, salting, massaging and savoring vegetables straight from the garden. Come find out about the health benefits of kimchi while we’re making some. You’ll go home with recipes and your own jar of kimchi.
