Down East Community Hospital will hold a Know Your Numbers event at the Women’s Health Resource Library at 24 School Street in Milbridge on February 11 from 12 noon to 2pm.

If you do not get regularly screened for cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, or BMI – if you don’t Know Your Numbers – do not miss this event.

Here are some very important reasons to get screened for cholesterol and blood glucose.

Cholesterol screening – This number refers to a type of fat in your blood, produced by the liver, but this fat may also come from some of the animal based foods that you eat.  High cholesterol occurs when there is too much of this fat.  High cholesterol is a leading cause of heart attack and stroke.  That’s why it’s important to know this number.

Blood Glucose screening – This number refers to the amount of sugar in your blood.  High blood glucose occurs when there is not enough insulin (hormone controlling the sugar) in your body or when the body cannot use it correctly.  High blood glucose could mean you have pre-diabetes or diabetes.  Some of the health complications that can come with diabetes is heart disease, eye complications, and kidney disease.  That is why it is important to know this number.

Come get screened and talk to our Care Coordinators so you can Know Your Numbers.
