The Elaine Hill Love a Nurse 5K was held on Saturday, May 14th in Milbridge. The annual event is sponsored by the Women’s Health Resource Library. This year’s 5K raised over $5,000 for the Elaine Hill Memorial Nursing Scholarship. The award helps up to two students each year pursue a degree in nursing. Two past Elaine Hill Scholarship recipients participated in the race – Colleen Herlihy and Joanne Hicks.
This year’s event was sponsored by Wyman’s of Maine, Milbridge Medical Center Board, Down East Community Hospital, Camden National Bank, County Concrete, Hammond & Sons Oil Co., Inland Seafood, Schoodic Insurance Services, and Sorrento Dental Associates.
The event featured a Fun Run for children with Face Painting by Maeve Perry.
Narraguagus Bay Health Care received the award for the largest team participating, with 17 staff members registered for the race.
The top finishers for the women were first place Shelby Greene with a time of 23:35, second place Donna Kausen with a time of 26:23, and Amy Cox in third place with a time of 28:02. The top finishers for the men were first place Evan Merchant with a time of 20:14, second place Cory Schwinn with a time of 23:55, and Alex Forni in third place with a time of 24:14. Evan Merchant did not accept the cash prize for the race, but rather donated his winnings.
